My company will be having a compulsory shut down period during the Xmas week, as such every staff will need to compulsory take 4 days of our annual leave.
However I just had an operation & was given hospitalisation leave till end of the year (ie. during the shut down period). I was told that I still have to deduct my annual leave even if I am suppose to be on hospitalisation leave during the period.
Can you advise ?
Please check with your HR for the leave policy as some companies accept Hospitalization Leave or Sick Leave to replace Annual Leave applied, while some companies do not.
For your scenario, would suggest you approach the HR:
1. If the Hospitalization Leave is given before the announcement of the 4 days of compulsory annual leave, please direct to the HR that you are applying for the hospitalization leave.
2. If the Hospitalization Leave is given in midst/after the announcement of the 4 days of compulsory annual leave, please try to talk to the HR as the annual leave is not initiated by yourself and you are medically certified unfit (with the hospitalization leave). Hear the HR out and let’s see whether they give you a reasonable explanation J
